Dodgers Roster: Mitch White Recalled, Daniel Hudson Placed On Injured List

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Mitch White from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Daniel Hudson on the 15-day injured list due to a torn ACL in his left knee. Hudson suffered the injury in the eighth inning of Friday’s game against the Atlanta Braves.

Hudson’s left knee buckled as he went to make a play off the mound, and the veteran right-hander immediately went down in pain. He was tended to by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and trainer Nate Lucero before being assisted off the field.

Roberts said after the 4-1 win the Dodgers suspected Hudson had torn the ACL in his left knee and would likely miss the remainder of the 2022 season.

The 35-year-old signed a contract with the Dodgers prior to the MLB lockout beginning last December. It marked a reunion as Hudson had previously spent the 2018 season with the franchise after signing a Minor League contract.

Hudson finished 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA and 1.22 WHIP in his lone year with the Dodgers and missed the final six weeks that year due to a second instance of right forearm tightness.

Hudson went 2-3 with a 2.22 ERA and 0.90 WHIP over 25 games this season.

His injury places further pressure on a Dodgers bullpen that remains with Victor González, Tommy Kahnle and Blake Treinen for the foreseeable future.

Mitch White back in Dodgers rotation

White was recalled as the corresponding move to Hudson going on the IL because the Dodgers again are without Andrew Heaney. He experienced discomfort while throwing a bullpen session Thursday and an MRI revealed a left shoulder strain.

Heaney already missed two months this season due to the same injury, and made just one start prior to being put back on the IL. He was scheduled to start Saturday, which White now fills in for.

He’s 1-1 with a 3.70 ERA, 3.86 FIP and 1.05 WHIP across nine games (four starts) for the Dodgers this season. White went 2-0 and tossed 11.2 scoreless innings over two starts for Oklahoma City. He was named Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for June 6-12.

“Mitch is pitching fantastic. Unsung hero,” Roberts said of White as Heaney was poised to return. “I know he’s going to continue to make starts down there and when we decided to plug him in, he’ll be ready.”
