The Los Angeles Dodgers designated Michael Petersen for assignment as one of two corresponding roster moves to selecting Nick Ramirez from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

Justin Wrobleski was optioned in order to make room for Ramirez on the active roster. The Dodgers’ 40-man roster remains full, which is of note as a spot will need to be opened in order for Yoshinobu Yamamoto to get activated off the 60-day injured list for his return on Tuesday.

That the Dodgers added a fresh relief pitcher for the series finale against the Cleveland Guardians is not a surprise. They utilized a bullpen game Saturday that saw six different pitchers enter after Ryan Brasier started as an opener.

Wrobleski pitched two innings and didn’t figure to have a role in the starting rotation moving forward with Yamamoto due back this week.

What is somewhat surprising with the Dodgers’ roster moves on Sunday is manager Dave Roberts indicated Brusdar Graterol is on the verge of returning. It’s plausible, if not likely, Graterol will be activated off the injured list at some point during the series against the Chicago Cubs.

Petersen most recently was up with the Dodgers last week, when he was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sept. 2. The right-hander remained with the team until getting optioned four days later.

Petersen gave up three runs in one inning of work this past Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. Overall in his third stint with the Dodgers, he allowed four runs in two innings pitched across two appearances.

Petersen is 3-0 with a 6.43 ERA in 11 games for the Dodgers this season. During his time with the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, he’s gone 2-0 with a 1.64 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 33 innings over 35 games.

The Dodgers originally signed Petersen to a Minor League contract in January. He spent the entire 2023 season with the Colorado Rockies organization.
