The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Luken Baker from the St. Louis Cardinals and designated Jack Little for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.
Baker will report to the Triple-A Oklahoma City Comets, where he has already been added to their active roster and will serve as organizational depth.
The 28-year-old hit .235/.366/.324 with two RBI and three runs scored in 19 games with the Cardinals this season. He has played 73 games for the Cardinals from 2023-25, slashing .206/.317/.338 with four homers, 22 RBI and 15 runs scored.
He has tallied 136 homers with 422 RBI in 638 Minor League games while hitting .252/.340/.485. He was drafted with the 75th overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft by the Cardinals.
The right-handed hitter made his MLB debut on June 3, 2023.
Baker has only seen time at first base and designated hitter as a professional player, but he also has some experience pitching in college at Texas Christian University.
Dodgers designate Jack Little for assignment
Little made two appearances this season for the Dodgers and allowed two runs in three innings for a 6.00 ERA. Little struck out just two hitters, walked another and hit one.
That hit-by-pitch came in his MLB debut against the San Diego Padres on June 19, which led to a benches-clearing incident that led to both Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and Padres manager Mike Shildt being suspended.
Little hit Fernando Tatis Jr. with a pitch in the ninth inning. It was the second time in the series that Tatis was hit.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was adamant that Little did not intentionally hit Tatis, but he recognized there comes a responsibility with pitching inside.
Little made 36 appearances for Oklahoma City, going 5-4 with a 4.64 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 42.2 innings. The 27-year-old was in the Dodgers organization for five seasons, going 11-9 with a 4.89 ERA in 138 Minor League games.
He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Stanford University.
