The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned J.P. Feyereisen to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster move to recalling Landon Knack for his start in the Freeway Series opener on Friday night.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced on Thursday that Knack would get another opportunity for a spot start, which was opted for instead of utilizing Ryan Yarbrough in a bulk role for a bullpen game.
Knack, 26, is the No. 12 prospect in the Dodgers farm system according to MLB Pipeline. Knack made his MLB debut on April 17 against the Washington Nationals. He gave up two earned runs in five innings, but ultimately was saddled with the loss with the Dodgers getting shut out.
Knack has 20.2 innings pitched over four MLB starts this season, posting a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP. He is one of the team’s most promising young pitchers and ranked a top-30 Dodgers prospect since the end of the 2021 season. L.A. selected Knack in the second round of the 2020 MLB Draft.
The right-hander faces the underachieving Angels team in his fifth career start. Despite some young talent on the roster, the Angels have generally been a below average offensive team this season.
The Dodgers faced a need for a starter in order to provide their rotation with extra rest and due to Yoshinobu Yamamoto (right rotator cuff strain) and Walker Buehler (right hip inflammation) both going on the 15-day injured list this week.
Dodgers option J.P. Feyereisen
Meanwhile, Feyereisen heads back to Triple-A amidt what has been a rollercoaster 2024 season thus far. Feyereisen missed the entire 2023 campaign due to right shoulder surgery, but figured to play a major role in the Dodgers bullpen this year.
He gave up three earned runs in both of his first two appearances and was sent down to Triple-A.
When Feyereisen returned in May, he had seven consecutive scoreless appearances with 7.2 innings pitched. He spent the last month with the Oklahoma City Baseball Club prior to joining the Dodgers on Monday.
Feyereisen allowed four runs in two innings during his only appearance at Coors Field.
