The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Landon Knack and Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City, optioned Michael Petersen and placed Gavin Stone on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Knack is getting the start on Friday for the series opener against the Cleveland Guardians. He is now in his fourth stint with the club.
The 27-year-old is joining the Dodgers rotation because of Clayton Kershaw going on the 15-day injured list due to left big toe inflammation that was caused by a bone spur.
Knack is 2-2 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 10 games (eight starts) for the Dodgers this season. While with Triple-A Oklahoma City throughout the year, he has gone 4-3 with a 3.71 ERA across 14 games (12 starts).
He last pitched on Aug. 28, throwing four innings out of the bullpen to piggyback with Yoshinobu Yamamoto in the first start of his rehab assignment.
Wrobleski returns to the Dodgers for his fourth stint with the club after allowing 10 runs in 5.1 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday.
The southpaw is 1-2 with the Dodgers across six starts, striking out 20 in 30.1 innings and producing a 1.38 WHIP. With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, he has posted a 0-2 record with a 5.26 ERA in 25.2 innings over five starts with 15 strikeouts.
He began the season with Double-A Tulsa, starting 13 games and producing a 5-2 record with a 3.06 ERA (23 ER/67.2 IP) and 62 strikeouts against just 13 walks.
Petersen allowed three runs in one inning of work on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Angels. He allowed four runs in two innings in two appearances in his third stint with the Dodgers.
On the 2024 campaign, he is 3-0 with a 6.43 ERA and 11 strikeouts in 14 innings in 11 games for the Dodgers. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he is 2-0 in 35 games with a 1.64 ERA in 33 innings and 44 strikeouts against eight walks.
Dodgers place Gavin Stone on IL
Stone’s loss is another significant one for the Dodgers as their rotation has been decimated by injuries this season. The right-hander has been their most consistent and healthy arm all season, and it comes at a time when the Dodgers can’t afford to lose any more pitchers.
Stone was 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 games this season. He set career-highs in innings pitched (140.1), starts, strikeouts (118) and wins.
He has been with the Dodgers two seasons, going a combined 12-6 with a 4.52 ERA in 33 games (29 starts). The Arkansas native was a combined 18-12 with a 3.19 ERA and 426 strikeouts in 70 minor league games.
