The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Jonny DeLuca on the 10-day injured list due to a right hamstring strain and activated Kiké Hernández prior to their series finale against the Toronto Blue Jays.

DeLuca is sidelined one week after being recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to Jake Marisnick getting put on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain.

DeLuca sustained his injury on Tuesday while trying to beat out a ground ball in the eighth inning. “Halfway through, I don’t really know how to explain it,” DeLuca explained. “It just tightened up. Not really like a pop, but just kind of like a cramp feeling. Hopefully not too bad, but we’ll see.”

DeLuca entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the sixth and played two innings in right field. He went 0-for-2 at the plate with two groundouts.

The 25-year-old was originally recalled on June 4 when the Dodgers placed Trayce Thompson on the 10-day IL because of a left oblique strain. DeLuca has appeared in 24 games for the Dodgers this season, batting .262/.311/.429 with one double, two home runs and six RBI.

Kiké Hernández returns to Dodgers

Hernández is in the Dodgers lineup against the Blue Jays one day after being acquired from the Boston Red Sox for Minor League pitchers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman.

The trade represents a reunion, as Hernández previously spent six seasons with the Dodgers from 2015-2020. He provided positional flexibility and delivered key postseason hits throughout that time.

Although the 31-year-old continued to play multiple positions with the Red Sox, he struggled at shortstop this year and didn’t find much consistency at the plate.

Hernández is hitting just .222/.279/.320 with 11 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI in 86 games this season. He has committed 14 errors in 484 innings across 64 games (54 starts) at shortstop this season, while making one error at second base and none in center field (14 games, 11 starts).
