Dodgers Roster: Justin Wrobleski Recalled, Matt Sauer Optioned

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Justin Wrobleski from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned Matt Sauer prior to Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals.

Sauer returns to Oklahoma City a mere two days after he was added onto the Dodgers roster as the corresponding move to Blake Snell going on the 15-day injured list because of left shoulder inflammation.

Sauer joined the Dodgers organization by signing a Minor League contract during the offseason. He received a non-roster invite to Spring Training and was included on the Dodgers’ Tokyo Series travel roster.

That was despite Sauer not having favorable results during his Cactus League appearances, and was partly due to multiple injuries in the bullpen.

Sauer had his contract selected before the finale of the Tokyo Series. Wrobleski was optioned to Oklahoma City and the Dodgers transferred Clayton Kershaw to the 60-day injured list as the corresponding moves to make room for Sauer’s addition to the 40-man roster.

Sauer pitched two-thirds of an inning in the Dodgers’ exhibition game against the Hanshin Tigers at the Tokyo Dome but did not appear in either of the regular season games against the Chicago Cubs. He was among the players the Dodgers optioned to Oklahoma City upon completion of the Tokyo Series.

While with the OKC Comets thus far, the 26-year-old has allowed just one run over three innings in one start. Sauer allowed one run over 1.2 innings pitched on Tuesday.

Wrobleski joins Dodgers rotation

Wrobleski was added to the Dodgers roster because a starter was need in Snell’s place on Tuesday. Prior to Snell’s IL stint beginning, the Dodgers already were looking at a potential spot starter or bullpen game in the finale at Nationals Park in order to keep Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki on their respective once-a-week schedules.

Landon Knack is likely going to be recalled Wednesday, but it’s not yet clear if that’s for a start or fill a bulk innings role as part of a bullpen game.

Meanwhile, Wrobleski is getting his first opportunity with the Dodgers this season. The left-hander made his MLB debut in 2024, going 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in eight games (six starts).

Wrobleski impressed during Spring Training in four Cactus League games (two starts). Wrobleski allowed two runs in his first appearance before proceeding to close out the spring with 7.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

The 24-year-old then struck out three over two scoreless innings in a start against the Yomiuri Giants at the Tokyo Dome.

In his lone start for Oklahoma City so far this season, Wrobleski allowed three hits and walked two over 5.2 scoreless innings. He collected three strikeouts in the outing last week.
