The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Justin Wrobleski to Triple-A Oklahoma City and recalled Michael Petersen ahead of their series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Wrobleski joined the Dodgers on Sunday when rosters expanded for September as MLB roster rules give teams one extra position player and one extra pitcher for the month.
It marked Wrobleski’s third stint with the Dodgers, and he was given the ball for the start against the Diamondbacks. Things did not go as either side hoped, however.
Wrobleski allowed 10 runs over 5.1 innings, also giving up 10 hits, fueled by an eight-run second inning.
The silver lining was he took the Dodgers into the sixth inning, which Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised him for to preserve the bullpen and put them in a better spot moving forward.
After the game, Roberts said the Dodgers would option Wrobleski to add another arm to the bullpen.
The left-hander heads back to Triple-A with 30.1 MLB innings tossed in his career while posting a 6.82 ERA, 6.80 FIP and 1.38 WHIP while striking out just 15.5% of hitters and walking 8.5%.
With the Oklahoma City Baseball Club, Wrobleski has thrown 25.2 innings with a 5.26 ERA and 4.83 FIP in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League.
Dodgers recall Michael Petersen
Petersen is back with the Dodgers for the third time this season. He first joined them on June 16 and ended up making his MLB debut on June 18 when he picked up the win after throwing two innings and allowing one run.
The right-hander has thrown 12 innings for the Dodgers this season, posting a 4.50 ERA, 6.01 FIP and 1.33 WHIP while striking out 15.4% of hitters and walking 13.5%.
Petsersen has fared far better in Triple-A with a 1.64 ERA, 2.31 FIP and 0.76 WHIP across 33 innings while striking out 35.2% of hitters and walking just 6.4%.
He was one of two pitchers on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster who is both healthy and eligible to activated to the roster, along with Landon Knack.
The 30-year-old first signed with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract this past offseason.
