The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Teoscar Hernández on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain and recalled James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s game against the Miami Marlins.
Hernández suffered his injury in the series opener at Marlins Park and was replaced by Chris Taylor to begin the bottom of the fourth inning. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after the 7-4 win that Hernández was going to have an MRI, and he was concerned given the outfielder typically doesn’t come out of a game due to injury.
Roberts added that Hernández was dealing with some tightness and discomfort not only in the hamstring, but adductor as well.
Hernández now is the second position player the Dodgers have needed to put on the 10-day injured list in the past week, joining Tommy Edman. The two have been among the team’s more productive players so far this season.
Hernández has a .933 on-base plus slugging percentage and leads all players with 34 RBI. Edman is second on the Dodgers with eight home runs, trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Hernández, who each have nine.
While Hernández is going to be out until the middle of the month, the Dodgers expect to activate Edman once he’s eligible to come off the injured list on Saturday.
James Outman back with Dodgers
Outman made the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster for the Tokyo Series but he did not appear in either of the two games against the Chicago Cubs.
While appearing in 32 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, Outman has hit .254/.322/.508 with seven doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 27 RBI.
Outman had a five-game hitting streak but was hitless on May 3 and 4, going a combined 0-for-7 with six strikeouts during that span.
Outman could be in for another short stint with the Dodgers as he figures to be corresponding move once Edman is ready to come off the injured list.
