The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled James Outman and optioned Justin Wrobleski prior to their season finale against the Colorado Rockies.

Wrobleski recorded the save on Saturday night, firing four scoreless innings with four strikeouts. He was 1-2 with a 5.70 ERA in eight games (six starts) for the Dodgers with 26 strikeouts and 36.1 innings.

With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, he has posted a 1-2 record with a 5.46 ERA in seven games.

He was recalled on Saturday to provide some length with Ben Casparius being optioned. Neither figure to be part of their postseason roster, so it was more about eating innings than anything.

With the roster move, the Dodgers chose to carry more position players than pitchers for the first time this season. The decision, which is mostly related to injuries, provides them with an extra bench option to close out the season.

The Dodgers have already been short on position players with both Freddie Freeman and Miguel Rojas nursing injuries while away from the team.

James Outman back with Dodgers

Outman returns for his fourth stint with the team and joins them amid a finger injury for Kevin Kiermaier that has him day-to-day.

Outman started the season as the Dodgers everyday center fielder, but lost his role after failing to find any success. The 27-year-old hit .158 with four homers and 11 RBI in 52 games for the Dodgers this season.

In three years with the Dodgers, he is batting .231 with 28 homers and 84 RBI in 207 career games. With Triple-A Oklahoma City, Outman was slashing .279/.390/.543 with 17 homers and 46 RBI in 69 games.

Kiermaier likely could have played if necessary, but the Dodgers no longer need to force that.

Kiermaier suffered the injury while sliding into second base during the fourth inning of Saturday’s game. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said the veteran outfielder dislocated his finger and had it popped back into place by the training staff.
