The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Chris Taylor on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain and recalled James Outman from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to their series finale against the San Francisco Giants.
Taylor suffered the groin injury in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s matchup as he rounded first base on an attempt to leg out a hustle double.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer went out to check on Taylor, who gingerly walked off the field after a brief conversation. The SportsNet LA broadcast captured Taylor appearing to motion toward his thigh upon getting into the dugout.
“Rounding first, I felt it kind of grabbed on me,” Taylor explained after the game. “I’ll get images tomorrow and see what it is. I really don’t know. I’ve never really had a groin or adductor injury before.
“I don’t want to guess or speculate. I’ll see what the doctors say. I didn’t feel like a pop or anything like that, so I’m hoping it’s very minor.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was less optimistic considering Taylor asked to come out of the game. “Sort of high,” Roberts answered when asked for his level of concern.
“Any time he comes out of a game, which he doesn’t, his pain tolerance is very high, that’s certainly telling.”
Taylor’s injury came on the same day the Dodgers lost Miguel Rojas to right forearm tightness. Rojas had been out of the lineup since Sunday because of what initially was thought to be a relatively minor injury.
“It is tough,” Roberts said of the Dodgers losing Rojas and Taylor to injury. “It is tough and fortunately we picked up (Nick) Ahmed and signed him to kind of stabilize the infield defense.
“I thought Chris was starting to come along, swing the bat well and play well, and you can trust him. So now, it just kind of really taps into guys that are playing and the depth.
“So to lose Miggy and C.T. in essentially consecutive days, it’s a big blow and you’re bringing in an outfielder, so the infield depth is a little bit thin. But you sort of got 26 guys on a particular day and you try to go with the guys that you think you’re going to win and do the best you can.”
James Outman back with Dodgers
Outman is back with the Dodgers less than a week after being optioned to Oklahoma City as the corresponding move to Jason Heyward getting activated off the injured list.
Outman began the season on the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster but largely struggled and was originally demoted to OKC in mid-May. He received limited opportunities during his second stint in the big leagues, going just 3-for-15 with eight strikeouts across nine games (five starts).
