Jake Reed cleared waivers and was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, removing him from the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

This marked the first time in Reed’s career he was outrighted off a roster. He additionally did not have the requisite service time to reject the Minor League assignment.

Reed was designated for assignment on December 29 as the corresponding move to finalize the signing of J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $10 million contract.

Reed only appeared in five games for the Dodgers last season, pitching to a 1.93 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. He was 2-0 with a 0.87 ERA in 10 games for Oklahoma City.

Jake Reed transactions log

When the Dodgers DFA’d Reed last month it represented the latest turn in what’s been a whirlwind two years for the right-hander. Reed originally joined the Dodgers organization in July 2021 when he was signed to a Minor League contract after being released by the Los Angeles Angels.

Reed was with the Dodgers for two weeks before getting designated for assignment and eventually claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Rays. Reed remained with the Rays for just one week, as he was then claimed by the New York Mets.

He began the 2022 season with the Mets and found his way back to the Dodgers organization on a waiver claim last July. The Baltimore Orioles then claimed him from L.A. in September, only for the Boston Red Sox to follow suit the next month, and the Dodgers to reunite with Reed in November.

The 30-year-old has a career 5.74 ERA, 4.33 FIP and 1.39 WHIP to go along with a 19.2% strikeout rate and 8.3% walk rate in 26.2 innings over 28 games (one start) with three teams in his big league career. At the Triple-A level, the Arizona native holds a 3.84 ERA and eight saves over 150 games (two starts).
