The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Jake Reed off waivers from the Boston Red Sox, giving them 38 players on their 40-man roster.

Reed first joined the Dodgers organization in June 2021 when he was signed to a Minor League contract after being released by the Los Angeles Angels.

Reed went on to make his MLB debut with the Dodgers one month later and appeared in six games (one start) before getting designated for assignment as the corresponding move to Billy McKinney getting added to the 40-man roster.

The Tampa Bay Rays claimed Reed off waivers but he then joined the New York Mets and was with them to begin the 2022 season. Reed returned to the Dodgers organization this past July.

That stint was relatively short-lived as he was optioned at the end of the month when Chris Martin was added to the Dodgers active roster after being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Cubs.

Reed later was designated for assignment when Blake Treinen returned from the 60-day injured list, and he subsequently was claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox then added the 30-year-old via their own waiver claim, but DFA’d him in order to clear room on their 40-man roster for the addition of prospects to protect them from potentially getting selected in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft in December.

Reed is a career 2-1 with a 5.74 ERA, 4.33 FIP and 1.39 WHIP to go along with a 19.2% strikeout rate and 8.3% walk rate in 26.2 innings across 28 games (one start) with three teams.

At the Triple-A level, the Arizona native is 9-8 with a 3.84 ERA and eight saves over 150 games (two starts).

Jake Reed saved for Dodgers

At a time when the Dodgers were short on available pitchers out of their bullpen, Reed was entrusted with a save opportunity against the Mets that he converted and called a career highlight.
