The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Gavin Lux on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain and recalled Zach Reks from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Monday’s series opener against the San Francisco Giants.

It was the Dodgers’ second roster move of the day as Victor Gonzalez was activated off the IL and Jake Reed got optioned to OKC. Lux being sidelined was somewhat expected after he left Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies because of the hamstring injury.

Following the loss, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Lux had suffered a cramp or potential mild strain, and the team expected to learn more once back home from the road series.

This marks a second time Lux is sidelined by injury this season as he previously missed time in April because of right hand soreness.

Lux went 0-for-4 in Sunday’s loss and out of the All-Star break thus far has one hit in 10 at-bats across three games (two starts). “I just think the at-bats, there’s been some good ones and bad ones,” Roberts said of Lux’s at-bats over the past month.

“[Friday] night I thought he hit the ball well a couple times; base hit and then another one he got robbed. I think he’s just grinding right now. It’s hard to kind of put into context what he’s doing or articulate, I think for me, basically when he’s using the middle of the field, he’s very dangerous.

“It allows for more plate coverage and he can handle more pitches. When he starts to pull the baseball too much, I think it exposes him, like any hitter. Just continuing to encourage him to swing at strikes and take balls.

“I think when he is going well and scaring guys out of the zone, there’s more walks in there. I still like the intent every time he gets in there to put together a good at-bat.”

Reks back with Dodgers

Reks had been on the taxi squad for the weekend series at Coors Field in the event Max Muncy needed to leave the team for the impending birth of his child.

Reks made his MLB debut on June 21 and has only appeared in three games with the Dodgers.
