The Los Angeles Dodgers added Evan Phillips to their active roster and reinstated Gavin Lux off the 10-day injured list prior to Tuesday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Andre Jackson and Conner Greene were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster moves.

Lux is back with the team after missing the past 25 games while recovering from a left hamstring strain. He joined OKC for a rehab assignment on Aug. 8 and went 7-for-22 with one double, one RBI and two walks over seven games (six starts).

Lux spent a portion of his rehab assignment playing third base, where he is in the Dodgers’ lineup on Tuesday. It’s Lux’s first time at third base in the Majors.

Phillips joins the Dodgers one day after being claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. Phillips made his 2021 debut last Friday and converted a three-inning save to help provide the Rays’ bullpen with needed rest.

However, Tampa Bay designated Phillips for assignment the day after his save. The right-hander made his MLB debut with the Atlanta Braves in 2018, and has also pitched for Baltimore Orioles in his career.

The 26-year-old is 1-3 with one save, a 7.26 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 49 games (one start) over parts of four seasons in the Majors. Phillips went a combined 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA in 20 games (one start) for the Orioles’ and Rays’ Triple-A affiliates this year.

Phillips is out of Major League options.

Jackson returns to the Minors one day after making his MLB debut. He walked four but also struck out six to get through four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Dodgers sending Jackson back to Oklahoma City suggests another bullpen game is on the horizon Saturday, barring roster movement.

Greene was another waiver claim by the Dodgers, and he’s turned in a pair of scoreless innings over two appearances for the team. Greene last pitched in the series finale against the New York Mets.

Dodgers excited to add Phillips

Manager Dave Roberts admittedly is not too familiar with Phillips, but noted the Dodgers organization views him in high regard.

“He’s got a good arm, it’s three-plus pitches and misses bats,” Roberts said. “I don’t know a whole lot about him, but I know our guys are really excited about having him with our club.”
