Dodgers Roster: David Price Activated, Shane Greene Designated For Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated David Price off the COVID-19 injured list prior to the second game of their doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Shane Greene was designated for assignment as the corresponding move on the active and 40-man rosters.

Price had been on the IL since testing positive on April 24 while the Dodgers were in San Diego. He wasn’t able to accompany the Dodgers as their road trip continued and couldn’t rejoin the team until being asymptomatic.

Despite being out for more than three weeks, Price did not join a Minor League affiliate for a rehab assignment. He returns as relief pitcher but may not yet be prepared to log multiple innings in a single appearance.

“David’s been down for close to three weeks. To take down two innings, I think is a tall ask, so I think it’s just going to be getting his feet back under him,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week.

“I feel he can get lefties and righties out. He’ll be ready for whatever situation comes up. I assume he’s feeling really well because he’s thrown a couple bullpens and a couple lives. Everything I’ve heard, he’s in a good spot.”

Prior to going on the IL, Price pitched to a 1.93 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over five relief appearances.

Greene is removed from the Dodgers’ roster a mere two days after having his contract selected. Greene threw two scoreless innings in his lone appearance before getting DFA’d.

The right-hander was back with the organization after re-signing with the Dodgers on a Minor League contract in March. He pitched to a 4.05 ERA, 6.62 FIP and 1.20 WHIP in 6.2 innings across nine appearances for L.A. last year and was DFA’d in late September.

David Price trade rumor

Although the Dodgers value the versatility Price provides out of the bullpen, there’s some belief the club would be willing to trade the veteran left-hander if it meant joining a team where he could start.

Price is earning $32 million in the final year of his contract.
