The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Chris Taylor on the 10-day injured list with a left foot fracture and activated Zach McKinstry off the 10-day IL.

Taylor previously missed the series finale against the San Diego Padres due to what the Dodgers called a left foot contusion, and the injury flared back up on him on Monday, which forced him to be removed from the game.

“If Chris has got to come out of the game, you know it’s something that’s pretty significant,” Dodgers manager Roberts said.

Taylor said the injury has affected the inside of his foot and runs up into his ankle. “It was something that was feeling better before the game and I thought it wasn’t going to be an issue,” he said about the decision to start on Monday.

“I thought I would be able to play through it, and it progressively every inning it got worse and worse and got to a point where it wasn’t worth continuing to try to push it.”

The Dodgers were also hoping Taylor would only miss a few days after he was removed, but he underwent a CT scan on Tuesday which showed the severity of the injury.

“Very disappointed, obviously to lose a player like CT,” Roberts said. “But hopefully, it’s not too long-term. I think once we get this swelling out, I think it’s going to be one of those per his tolerance.

On the season, Taylor is batting .238 with 19 doubles, six homers and 27 RBI in 74 games.

McKinstry returns after being placed on the injured list on June 28 with neck stiffness. He has appeared in six games with the Dodgers, batting .143 with a homer and two RBI.

With Triple-A Oklahoma City, he was batting .335 (64-for-191) with nine doubles, four homers and 25 RBI in 48 games. In three Major League seasons with the Dodgers, the utility man has hit a combined .218 with 10 doubles, eight homers and 31 RBI.

Dodgers activate Caleb Ferguson

In addition to placing Taylor on the IL and activating McKinstry, the Dodgers also activated Caleb Ferguson off the 15-day IL and optioned Ryan Pepiot to Triple-A Oklahoma City to make room on their active roster.

Ferguson has been on the IL since June 21, retroactive to June 17, with left forearm tendinitis.

Although the Dodgers placed him on the IL, Ferguson said the injury wasn’t serious and he was just dealing with a bit of soreness. Ferguson believed at the time he was capable of pitching through the discomfort.
