Dodgers Roster: Ryan Brasier Called Up, Bryan Hudson Optioned & Andre Jackson Designated For Assignment

The Los Angeles Dodgers selected the contract of Ryan Brasier and optioned Bryan Hudson prior to the Freeway Series opener on Tuesday night. Andre Jackson was designated for assignment in order to make room for Brasier on the 40-man roster.

Brasier joins the active roster two weeks after signing a Minor League contract with the Dodgers. That came on the heels of the Boston Red Sox releasing him.

The veteran right-hander was designated for assignment by the Red Sox in the middle of May and released upon clearing waivers. He went 1-0 with one save, a 7.29 ERA, 4.38 FIP and 1.57 WHIP in 20 games for Boston this year.

Brasier coincidentally made his MLB debut with the Los Angeles Angels in 2013 but didn’t pitch again in the Majors until five years later. Brasier was a key contributor on the 2018 Red Sox World Series team that defeated the Dodgers in five games.

Brasier pitched against the Dodgers in Games 1 and 3, throwing a combined 1.2 innings and allowing just one run.

Although Brasier helped the Red Sox win a World Series, he largely struggled after that successful postseason run. The 35-year-old is 5-8 with nine saves, a 5.11 ERA, 3.98 FIP and 1.35 WHIP in 176 innings pitched over 188 games (one start) since the 2019 season.

Brasier joins Mookie Betts, J.D. Martinez and J.T. Watkins as members of the 2018 World Series Red Sox who are now with the Dodgers.

Hudson heads back to OKC after spending two days up with the Dodgers. Hudson became the seventh player to make his MLB debut this season.

Meanwhile, Jackson is now going through waivers after appearing in 14 games for the Dodgers over parts of the past three seasons.

Ryan Brasier with Oklahoma City Dodgers

Upon signing with the Dodgers, Brasier was assigned to Oklahoma City. He only appeared in two games for the affiliate, but went 1-0 and had five strikeouts over three scoreless innings.
