The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Brusdar Graterol from Triple-A Oklahoma City to fill the vacant roster spot created when Major League Baseball placed Trevor Bauer on seven-day administrative leave.
“MLB’s investigation into the allegations made against Trevor Bauer is ongoing,” the league said in a statement. “While no determination in the case has been made, we have made the decision to place Mr. Bauer on seven-day administrative leave effective immediately.
“MLB continues to collect information in our ongoing investigation concurrent with the Pasadena Police Department’s active criminal investigation. We will comment further at the appropriate time.”
Currently on the restricted list, Bauer additionally was removed from the Dodgers’ 40-man roster for the time being. He had 24 hours if wishing to appeal MLB’s ruling, but will not do so. The league can request to extend the leave of absence at the end of seven days if more time is needed for their investigation.
However, in order to go beyond the initial period, MLB would need approval from the Players Association.
Graterol returns to the Dodgers for the first time since being reinstated from the 10-day injured list on June 5. L.A. immediately optioned Graterol to Oklahoma City at the time of activating him.
He had been on the IL since April 18 due to right forearm inflammation. Graterol began the season on the IL and has only pitched in three games for the Dodgers thus far.
Graterol sent to ‘finishing school’
Although the exuberant relief pitcher played a key role in the Dodgers winning the 2020 World Series, the club saw a need for improvement, which was behind their decision to option Graterol to OKC last month.
“As far as pitch development, working on the slider to have something to equalize the left-handed hitter, keeping the sinker and two-seamer down in the zone to go along with the slider to get swing and miss, or soft contact, to execute that consistently, those are the things we want from Brusdar,” manager Dave Roberts recently explained.
“I’m sure, like all Minor League players, wants to be in the big leagues. But there’s some finishing school that we see in him so once he does get back here, we want him to stick.”
Graterol had already joined the Dodgers on Friday to be part of their visit to the White House. Corey Seager also was with the team.
