The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Brusdar Graterol from the 60-day injured list and placed Blake Treinen on the 15-day IL with left hip discomfort.
Graterol has been on the IL all season with right shoulder inflammation that he suffered in Spring Training.
Last year, Graterol become one of the Dodgers most important and effective high-leverage relievers, posting a 1.20 ERA, 3.03 FIP and 0.97 WHIP in 67.1 innings.
He has been with the Dodgers four seasons, pitching to a a 2.69 ERA in 171 career games (three starts) with a 3.24 FIP, 7.69 strikeouts per nine and 1.97 walks per nine.
He started his career with the Minnesota Twins in 2019, going 1-1 in 10 games with a 4.66 ERA.
Graterol has been on a rehab assignment and returned to L.A. on Sunday. Prior to the game on Monday, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Graterol and Michael Grove were options to be activated.
Treinen has made 34 appearances with the Dodgers, posting a 2.67 ERA, 3.89 FIP and 1.09 WHIP while striking out 38 hitters across 30.1 innings and holding batters to a .212 batting average.
He has been in the Majors 10 seasons with the Washington Nationals (2014-17), Oakland Athletics (2017-19) and Dodgers (2020-24), pitching to a 2.85 ERA in 483 games. He has 80 career saves with 542 strikeouts.
Treinen missed all of the 2023 season, but has rebounded to have a strong year in 2024. However, he has dealt with some issues over his last seven games, posting a 4.76 ERA with a total of three runs allowed on July 27 and 30 in 1.1 innings.
Freddie Freeman returns to Dodgers
Earlier today, the Dodgers also designated Cavan Biggio for assignment and activated Freddie Freeman off the restricted list. Designating Biggion for assignment opened up the 40-man roster spot needed to activate Graterol.
Freeman first left the Dodgers before they began play against the Houston Astros to begin their roadtrip as one of his three sons, Maximus, became ill and was hospitalized.
He ended up going on the family emergency list on July 27. On Aug. 3, he was placed on the restricted list due to the time constraints of the family emergency list.
Thankfully, Max has made tremendous improvements recently, which led to him returning home on Sunday after eight days in the intensive care unit.
Biggio has been starting in place of Freeman at first base, but he was the odd man out as part of the Dodgers roster crunch the Dodgers will need to deal with in the coming weeks.
Over the last seven games, Biggio hit .217/.357/.522 with two home runs, six RBI and three runs scored in place of Freeman, stepping up for the club while also playing a solid first base.
