Dodgers Roster: Blake Treinen Placed On Injured List, Garrett Cleavinger Recalled

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Blake Treinen on the 10-day injured list due to right shoulder discomfort and recalled Garrett Cleavinger from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of the series opener against the San Diego Padres.

Treinen’s IL stint was backdated three days (maximum permitted by MLB), which makes Friday, April 29, the earliest date he can be activated.

Treinen last pitched on April 14, when he threw 18 pitches and completed one scoreless inning to be credited with the win against the Cincinnati Reds. That was followed by shoulder trouble, which did not come to light until Phil Bickford entered in the eighth inning for a high-leverage appearance in the series opener against the Atlanta Braves.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Treinen was unlikely to appear in the 2021 National League Championship Series rematch but expressed optimism the right-hander would be available for the weekend set at Petco Park.

Roberts twice stated he anticipated Treinen being available to pitch against the Padres. The last Treinen update was being scheduled to throw off a mound on Wednesday.

Treinen is 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over three appearances this season.

Cleavinger was optioned this past Sunday as the corresponding move to Phil Bickford getting recalled, but was eligible to return due to replacing an injured player on the Dodgers’ active roster.

Cleavinger was among the five left-handed relief pitchers to be included on the Opening Day roster. He allowed one run on two hits and recorded just two outs in his lone appearance with L.A. prior to being optioned.

That came under unique circumstances as Cleavinger had just entered the game against the Minnesota Twins before it went into a rain delay that lasted 1 hour and 28 minutes, yet he remained on the mound once play resumed.

Dodgers injuries

Treinen joins Andrew Heaney as Dodgers pitchers to be put on the IL this week. Heaney is suffering from left shoulder discomfort that is not believed to be serious.

Although still on the active roster, Gavin Lux missed the past two games because of back tightness. Lux should return to the Dodgers lineup on Friday, or at some point this weekend.
