The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Matt Sauer from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Blake Snell on the 15-day injured list prior to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Sauer joined the Dodgers organization on a Minor League contract last December. He received a non-roster invite to Spring Training and was included on the Dodgers’ Tokyo Series travel roster.

The right-hander then had his contract selected before the finale against the Chicago Cubs. Justin Wrobleski was optioned to Oklahoma City and the Dodgers transferred Clayton Kershaw to the 60-day injured list as the corresponding roster moves to make room for Sauer’s addition.
Sauer pitched two-thirds of an inning in the Dodgers’ exhibition game against the Hanshin Tigers at the Tokyo Dome. He was among the players the Dodgers optioned to Oklahoma City upon completion of the Tokyo Series.
While with the OKC Comets thus far, the 26-year-old has allowed just one run over three innings in one start. Sauer made 14 relief appearances for the Kansas City Royals last season.
Blake Snell’s injury
Snell’s stint on the injured list was backdated to April 3. The left-hander nevertheless is going to miss his next scheduled start that was going to be Tuesday against the Washington Nationals. The earliest Snell can be activated in Friday, April 18.
The Dodgers already were facing the likelihood of a bullpen game or needing a spot starter Wednesday in order to keep Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Roki Sasaki on their schedule of pitching once a week.
Snell is 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA, 4.72 FIP and 2.00 WHIP through two starts so far this season. Errors didn’t do Snell any favors, but he also labored some through just four innings against the Atlanta Braves on April 2.
The 32-year-old was excited to head into his first season with the Dodgers, particularly after signing early in free agency and getting to have a more traditional offseason compared to before the 2024 campaign.
Last year Snell dealt with a left adductor strain and strained left groin. Left shoulder fatigue led to a stint on the injured list in 2018.
