Dodgers Roster: Andy Pages Optioned, Max Muncy Activated

The Los Angeles Dodgers activated Max Muncy off the 60-day injured list ahead of their series against the Seattle Mariners. To make room for Muncy, Andy Pages was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City while River Ryan was transferred to the 60-day injured list.

Muncy was first placed on the 10-day IL on May 17 because of a right oblique strain. The Dodgers hoped he would return quickly, but that did not prove to be the case.

On June 21, Muncy was transferred to the 60-day injured list and he faced numerous setbacks throughout the rehab process as discomfort in his oblique lingered.

After the trade deadline on July 30, Muncy experienced a turnaround upon visiting a chiropractor.

“Max had a real good breakthrough with how he felt,” manager Dave Roberts Roberts explained at the time. “There was a chiropractic adjustment that kind of aligned things in there, in the ribs, which is great. So when everything’s telling you that you’re healthy and you’re fine, sometimes it’s kind of a body lineup thing that gets things back in line, right?

“So that’s something he was pretty excited about.”

Muncy had been on a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City, starting in six games and playing third base in five of them.

He hit .286/.375/.476 with one double, one home run, four RBI, three walks and six strikeouts during his rehab assignment.

Prior to going on the IL, Muncy batted .223/.323/.475 with eight doubles, nine home runs and 28 RBI in just 40 games this season.

Muncy was originally scheduled to return on Tuesday, but the injury to Freeman pushed the timeline up by a day. Freeman nevertheless is going to attempt playing through a hairline fracture in his middle finger.

Pages is headed back to Oklahoma City for the first time since making his MLB debut on April 16.

Pages joined the Dodgers as the corresponding move to Jason Heyward going on the 10-day injured list, and hit his way into a regular role.

The rookie outfielder struggled at times defensively in center field and cooled off at the plate, but had recently started to swing the bat well again.

Pages nevertheless became the odd man out with Kevin Kiermaier’s presence, the Dodgers’ plan to play Tommy Edman in center field and Mookie Betts returning to play right field.
