The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Andre Jackson and selected the contract of Neftalí Féliz prior to Monday’s series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Edwin Uceta and Darien Núñez were optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City as the corresponding roster moves.

Also, Cole Hamels was transferred to the 60-day injured list in order to add Féliz to the 40-man roster. That ends Hamels’ comeback before it truly began with the Dodgers.

Jackson had been slated to start for Triple-A Oklahoma City, but instead will enter out of the bullpen at Dodger Stadium for his MLB debut. The Dodgers are first using Justin Bruihl as an opener in his first career Major League start.

“We’re excited for him,” Roberts said of Jackson. “His family, his friends, his wife are here. We get to see a Dodger farmhand make his debut.”

Jackson was among multiple Dodgers pitching prospects who earned a promotion at the beginning of the month. The right-hander went 3-2 with a 3.27 ERA and 75 strikeouts across 63.1 innings pitched in 15 games (13 starts) for Double-A Tulsa before joining Oklahoma City.

He carried that success over upon joining the Dodgers’ top affiliate, going 2-0 with a 3.38 ERA in two games (one start). Jackson last pitched on Aug. 10, which puts Monday’s appearance on an extra day of rest.

The 25-year-old has moved up the prospect rankings of late and represented the Dodgers at the 2021 All-Star Futures Game.

Féliz signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers during the first week of July. He made one appearance for the Philadelphia Phillies prior to being outrighted and joining L.A.

Féliz has appeared in 13 games for Oklahoma City, going 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA.

Dodgers replace tired arms

Núñez and Uceta both appeared in Sunday’s win against the New York Mets. For Núñez, it was his first appearance since returning an IL stint that began Aug. 7 for an undisclosed reason.

The southpaw only retired one of four batters faced prior to being replaced by Uceta. The right-hander promptly uncorked a wild pitch but otherwise struck out three over 1.2 innings.
