Dodgers Recalled Kyle Farmer From Triple-A Oklahoma City, Place Pedro Baez On 10-Day Disabled List

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced ahead of Friday’s series-opener against the San Francisco Giants that they have recalled catcher/infielder Kyle Farmer from the Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed right-handed pitcher Pedro Báez on the 10-day disabled list with right biceps tendinitis. Baez’s disabled list stint is retroactive to June 12.

The injury is not something that had previously been reported with Baez, and it is currently unknown how long he will be out.

Baez has appeared in 30 games this season, going 3-3 with a 3.23 ERA, 3.25 FIP and 1.50 WHIP while striking out 36 compared to 16 walks in 30.2 innings. He has not pitched since June 9, which could be in part due to the injury.

Farmer began the season on the big league roster and spent the first month and a half at the Major League level before being optioned back to Oklahoma City after struggling a bit at the plate. In 30 games for the Dodgers, Farmer hit .230/.304/.279 with six RBI.

He has fared much better in his time with Oklahoma City, slashing .281/.340/.438 with three home runs and 16 RBI in 22 games.

Farmer has had success in his career against the Giants, hitting .333 in 11 career games against them, including two game-winning hits. Farmer’s memorable Major League debut in which he hit a walk-off double in his first career plate appearance came against the Giants in 2017.

He will serve as depth both in the infield and behind the plate, which gives Dodgers manager Dave Roberts more flexibility with how he utilizes his bench.
