The Los Angeles Dodgers announced that they have recalled switch-pitcher Pat Venditte and placed reliever Yimi Garcia on the 10-day disabled list ahead of Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
Venditte has been back and forth between Triple-A Oklahoma City and the big leagues a lot this season, providing the Dodgers bullpen with much-needed depth.
In five Major League appearances this season, Venditte has posted an 8.31 ERA, 5.065 FIP and 2.08 WHIP while striking out four compared to just one walk in 4.1 innings. Despite the ineffectiveness, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has spoken highly of Venditte as he believes there is value in him essentially being two pitches.
He has fared much better with Oklahoma City, going 3-2 with a 1.93 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 46 strikeouts and 13 walks in 37.1 innings.
Garcia is dealing with right forearm inflammation, and after testing out his arm before the game it was decided that he would require a disabled list stint, which is retroactive to July 4.
In 19 games this season, Garcia has posted a 5.21 ERA, 6.32 FIP and 1.47 WHIP with 16 strikeouts compared to three walks in 19 innings of work.
The announcement of this roster move was not announced until the first inning of Saturday’s game, although the Dodgers decided to make the move before the start of the game.
