Dodgers Recall Josh Sborz, Option Jaime Schultz To Triple-A Oklahoma City

The Los Angeles Dodgers recalled Josh Sborz and optioned Jaime Schultz to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to beginning a three-game series with the Colorado Rockies. They additionally placed Kiké Hernandez on the 10-day injured list with a left hand sprain and added Kristopher Negrón to the active roster.

Schultz returns to Oklahoma City two days after joining the Dodgers as a corresponding move to Ross Stripling landing on the 10-day IL because of right biceps tendinitis.

Schultz allowed four runs on five hits over two innings in Sunday’s loss to the Washington Nationals. The appearance was his fourth with the team, but first since April.

Although the right-hander was recalled when the Dodgers lost a starter and is now being replaced by a fellow relief pitcher, L.A. appears to have a subsequent move looming in Tony Gonsolin. He’s likely to be recalled Tuesday to make a spot start due to the void left by Stripling’s injury.

Sborz rejoins the Dodgers for the third time this season. He first was recalled April 14 but didn’t appear in any games despite spending six days with the club.

Sborz was optioned to Oklahoma City in a corresponding move to Hyun-Jin Ryu returning from the injured list, and didn’t return to the Majors until June. Sborz made his MLB debut against the San Francisco Giants on June 20, allowing three runs on two hits in one innings.

He’s 3-3 with a 4.54 ERA in 34 games for Oklahoma City this season, but been more impressive in his past 10 games, going 2-0 with a 2.61 ERA and 14 strikeouts. The Dodgers selected Sborz in the second round of the 2015 MLB Draft.

It was initially expected Dylan Floro would return Monday, though Dodgers manager Dave Roberts did allow for some flexibility. Floro threw a simulated game last week at Dodger Stadium and joined High-A Rancho Cucamonga for a rehab assignment, completing the scheduled one inning.
