Dodgers Recall Andrew Toles From Triple-A Oklahoma City, Place Yasiel Puig On Disabled List

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced ahead of Monday’s series opener against the San Diego Padres that they have recalled Andrew Toles from Triple-A Oklahoma City and placed Yasiel Puig on the 10-day disabled list with a right intercostal oblique strain.

Toles, who was an integral part of the Dodgers team before going down with a season-ending knee injury in May of 2017, finds his way back in the big leagues a little over a year after suffering the injury.

The 26-year-old had a very strong spring with the Dodgers, proving that he was healthy, but they still decided to option him to Oklahoma City at the beginning of the season so he could see more game action in a low-pressure environment.

In 34 games with Oklahoma City this season, Toles has torn the cover off the ball, hitting .326/.363/.500 with four home runs and 22 RBI while even stealing a pair of bases.

In parts of two big league seasons with the Dodgers, Toles hit .294/.341/.483 with eight home runs and 31 RBI in 79 games.

With Puig being placed on the disabled list, Toles will likely see a lions share of the time in center field with Matt Kemp shifting over to right and Joc Pederson to left. He is playing there and batting eighth on Monday.

Puig suffered the oblique injury in a swing during Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. After undergoing an MRI on Monday, it was determined that a disabled list stint was necessary.
