Dodgers Prospects Emmet Sheehan, Jose Ramos Earn Arizona Fall League Player Of The Week Honors

Los Angeles Dodgers prospects Emmet Sheehan and Jose Ramos earned Arizona Fall League Players of the Week honors as the schedule wound to a close.

Ramos was named the Week 6 Player of the Week, and Sheehan earned Pitcher of the Week.

Ramos, the Dodgers’ No. 8 prospect according to MLB.com, hit a solo shot in last week’s AFL Championship Game, capping off his dominant run in Arizona.

Alongside fellow Dodgers farmhand Andy Pages, his development at the plate at the age of 21 is a huge bright spot considering his upside has been primarily in his defensive ability.

In the final week of play, Ramos stepped up and helped lead the Glendale Desert Dogs to a playoff berth. He had five hits in three regular season games, including a triple and two home runs. On the week, Ramos sported a .454 batting average with 13 total bases and five RBI. He finished the 2022 AFL season batting .275/.326/.463 with 16 RBI.

For the second consecutive week, Sheehan put together a dominant performance against the Peoria Javelinas. In five innings pitched, Sheehan allowed only one hit while fanning 10 hitters en route to his third win of the season (tied for the AFL lead).

Sheehan finished his Fall League campaign with a 3.54 ERA and 24 strikeouts over 20.1 innings pitched. Sheehan set an Arizona Fall League record by striking out eight batters in a row during a one-hit scoreless outing, a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since 2005.

Sheehan, the Dodgers’ No. 22 prospect, reached Double-A at the backend of the 2022 season, and at 23 years old he showcased his impressive velocity. After earning praise in last year’s AFL, Sheehan has been climbing up Dodgers prospect rankings.

Dodgers prospects protected in Rule 5 draft

The Dodgers added Diego Cartaya, Michael Busch, Andy Pages and Jonny DeLuca to their 40-man roster this week in order to protect them from potentially getting selected in the 2022 Rule 5 Draft.

Last season, the Dodgers added Jacob Amaya, Jorbit Vivas, Eddys Leonard, Michael Grove, and James Outman to their 40-man roster before the deadline.
