Dodgers Prospect Nick Robertson Looking To Build On MLB Debut

Although the Los Angeles Dodgers endured a fourth consecutive loss in large part due to Noah Syndergaard’s ongoing struggles, Wednesday night included a highlight in the form of Nick Robertson making his MLB debut.

Syndergaard again labored through a short start and squandered two leads, forcing the Dodgers to rely heavily on their bullpen. Alex Vesia was the first reliever summoned by manager Dave Roberts, and he proceeded to throw a scoreless fourth inning.

Next up was Robertson, who tossed two perfect innings with three strikeouts. The 24-year-old had his contract selected from Triple-A Oklahoma City earlier in the day.

Robertson discussed his first day as a big leaguer and enjoyed the experience aside from the Dodgers losing, as seen on SportsNet LA:

“It was a tough loss. The bullpen kept us in it for the whole game, and other than that it was just a good experience. It was nice to see people go out there performing and all the hitters doing their job too. Other than that, just happy to get the first one out of the way.”

Robertson was pleased with his performance on the mound and hopes to build on it going forward:

“It was definitely really good for the confidence. But just got to keep going out there and doing the same thing.”

Robertson was also happy that his wife and family had the opportunity to attend his MLB debut:

“They were all just really happy. They were emotional, a couple tears were shed. They were all just really excited for me.”

The Dodgers originally selected Robertson out of James Madison University in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He is in his fourth season with the organization and posted a 2-0 record with a 2.13 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 24 games with Oklahoma City this year prior to being called up.

Nick Robertson & Jonny DeLuca made MLB debuts in same game

In addition to Robertson, Jonny DeLuca also made his MLB debut in the Dodgers’ loss to the Reds on Wednesday. He twice made solid contact but went 0-for-2 with a walk.

DeLuca and Robertson became the first set of Dodgers teammates to make their respective MLB debuts in the same game since Joc Pederson and Yimi García on September 1, 2014.
