Dodgers Prospect James Tibbs III Dealing With Minor Forearm Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers have again been hampered by injuries this season, both at the Major and Minor League levels.

In addition to the likes of Teoscar Hernández, Kiké Hernández, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow and Edwin Díaz all being sidelined, top prospect Kendall George recently suffered a left knee injury while jumping out of the way of the Tulsa Drillers’ bat dog.

Meanwhile, James Tibbs III is dealing with a minor forearm injury that has essentially limited him to designated hitter duties over the last month, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

James Tibbs III has also been dealing with a (minor) forearm issue, sources said, which is why he's essentially been limited to DH duty since May 6. He's on a throwing progression, and it's not the reason for the decision, but explains why he hasn't played outfield lately.

Tibbs last contributed with his glove and arm on May 7, when he started in right field against the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees. While the injury has limited him from a defensive standpoint, he is still getting it done with his bat.

Tibbs has gone 25-for-67 (.373) with three doubles, one triple, six home runs and 24 RBI in his last 18 games as the Comets’ designated hitter. He has homered in five of his last six games , all of which came on the road against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.

Tibbs is hitting .322/.426/.659 with 35 extra-base hits and 51 RBI in 54 games for the Comets this season. His success is an extension of performing well during Spring Training, which among other things saw him participate in the Spring Breakout game.

Despite being limited to only the DH role, Tibbs was just named Pacific Cost League Player of the Week for the period of May 25-31.

How the Dodgers acquired James Tibbs III

The Dodgers acquired Tibbs and Zach Ehrhard in the deal that sent Dustin May to the Boston Red Sox at the 2025 trade deadline. It was the second time Tibbs was traded as he previously had been sent from the San Francisco Giants to the Red Sox as part of their deal to acquire Rafael Devers.

Tibbs has now seemingly found a home with the Dodgers as he is among their top prospects for the 2026 season. If he continues to perform well with the Comets, there is a possibility of Tibbs making his MLB debut at some point this year. But the one caveat is that L.A. would have to find a spot for him on their 40-man roster.
