The Los Angeles Dodgers’ 2020 season in just around the corner as their annual FanFest has already taken place and players will report to Camelback Ranch for Spring Training within the next couple of weeks.

The unofficial start to baseball season is this Sunday at the conclusion of Super Bowl LIV, which has the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami.

But before the focus shifts to the diamond, the Super Bowl will feature the unquestioned two best teams in football. The Chiefs feature perhaps the best player in the league in reigning NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes, while the 49ers have the most complete roster, as was evident when they ran through almost every team in the league to become the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

As a Chicago Bears fan, Dodgers infielder Gavin Lux doesn’t have any personal rooting interest in Sunday’s game. He did declare who he wants to win, however.

“I want to see the Chiefs win. I like Patrick Mahomes, he’s a stud,” Lux said. “But I’m a Bears fan, and they’ve struggled a little bit, so I don’t really care who wins.”

The Chiefs are currently a slight 1.5-point favorite, but it is expected to be a game that can go either way with Kansas City’s high-powered offense squaring off against San Francisco’s elite defense.

Lux isn’t the only Dodgers player that will be paying attention to the Super Bowl as the team is full of football fans. They have an annual fantasy football league, which has been won by Clayton Kershaw and Ross Stripling each of the last two years.

While the game should be an exciting one, Dodgers players have to be looking forward to soon getting into game action themselves. L.A. has claimed seven consecutive National League West division championships, but they fell short of winning the World Series again in 2019 despite a franchise-record 106 wins.

That, coupled with wanting to further distance themselves from the Houston Astros’ cheating scandal, should provide plenty of extra motivated to finish the job in 2020.
