Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Dalton Rushing was named to the National League roster for the 2023 MLB Futures Game being played Saturday, July 8, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. First pitch for the seven-inning game highlighting likely future All-Stars is set for 4 p.m. PT and it will stream on Peacock and SiriusXM.
Rushing is the only Dodgers prospect playing in the game this season. Though, Clayton Beeter, who was traded to the New York Yankees for Joey Gallo, is on the American League roster.
Last season the Dodgers were represented by Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller and Miguel Vargas in the Futures Game at Dodger Stadium, their most in franchise history for one year. Miller and Vargas have since gone out to carve out noteworthy roles with the Dodgers.
Overall, the Dodgers have had 26 Minor Leaguers named to Futures Game since the first one was played in 1999.
Rushing joins Corey Seager (2014), Julio Urías (2014), Yadier Álvarez (2017) and Diego Cartaya (2022) as Dodgers prospects to play in the All-Star Futures Game despite only advancing to High-A at the time.
Entering play Tuesday, Rushing has hit .263/.438/.500 with 14 doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 32 RBI through 48 games for the High-A Great Lakes Loons. The Dodgers’ first pick from the 2022 MLB Draft recently returned from the seven-day injured list after being hit in the head by a follow-through swing.
Dalton Rushing visited Dodger Stadium
Months after the Dodgers used their first pick on the 2022 Draft on Rushing, he visited Dodger Stadium to take in the environment.
“It was cool. You get to be around some of the guys that have been here, whether it be years or this is their first callup, it’s pretty cool,” Rushing told DodgerBlue.com. “Being able to take B.P. with some of the best, it’s a really cool and fun experience.”
Although Rushing was another catcher out of Louisville drafted by the Dodgers, he’s started games as the designated hitter and at first base this season.
2023 MLB Futures Game information
MLB Network is going to co-produce the telecast with Dave Sims (play-by-play), Yonder Alonso (analyst), Jonathan Mayo (analyst), Siera Santos (reporter) and Caroline Pineda (reporter) on the call.
After 20 years of a United States vs. World format, this is now a fourth Futures Game that features NL and AL teams, like in the MLB All-Star Game. The teams tied in 2019, then the NL won in 2021 and AL came away with a victory last year.
MLB Network analyst Harold Reynolds is going to manage the AL Futures team, while the league’s senior vice president of on-field operations Raul Ibañez leads the NL Futures.
