The Los Angeles Dodgers hung on for an exhilarating win over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the National League Division Series, coming through on several key plays and moments throughout the night.
Among them was Blake Snell stranding two runners in the sixth inning to keep the game locked in a scoreless tie. After Snell struck out Bryce Harper, he got Alec Bohm to ground into a force out.
Miguel Rojas fielded the routine grounder and broke into a sprint to just beat Trea Turner to third base for the final out. Rojas grimaced as he got up from the play, and it appeared his left shoulder was ailing him.
Max Muncy pinch-hit for Rojas in the seventh inning, which at the time was presumed to be because of the Phillies having Orion Kerkering on the mound. While that was the case, Rojas also is dealing with a minor hamstring injury.
“Miggy, great play, aggressive, heady play to get Trea at third base on the force play,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “And then the hamstring tightened up a little bit on him. It’s something he’s been dealing with for the past few weeks.
“Wanted to get him out of there, obviously, liked Muncy coming into the game. We’ll see how he comes in tomorrow. And his status, I would say it’s fair to say it’s day-to-day.”
Rojas has appeared in all four of the Dodgers’ postseason games thus far, with two of them coming as starts. He’s 3-for-6 with one RBI in those games.
Impact of Miguel Rojas injury
The Dodgers figure to try getting through the rest of the NLDS without removing Rojas from their playoff roster. If that is the path they’d need to go down, it would result in Rojas not being available for the NL Championship Series should the Dodgers advance.
Even if Rojas was not dealing with any hamstring trouble, he likely wouldn’t be in the Dodgers lineup for Game 3 as the Phillies are starting Aaron Nola. Muncy should be back at third base, with Tommy Edman still playing second base and Kiké Hernández starting in left field.
