The wait for the Los Angeles Dodgers to host an MLB All-Star Game will stretch another two years as the league announced this year’s exhibition was cancelled. As a result the Dodgers were awarded the 2022 All-Star Game.
“Once it became clear we were unable to hold this year’s All-Star festivities, we wanted to award the Dodgers with the next available All-Star Game, which is 2022,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.
“I want to thank the Dodgers organization and the City of Los Angeles for being collaborative partners in the early stages of All-Star preparation and for being patient and understanding in navigating the uncertainty created by the pandemic. The 2022 All-Star celebration promises to be a memorable one with events throughout the city and at picturesque Dodger Stadium.”
Despite the disappointment, Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten was appreciative all involved worked to find a solution that will bring the All-Star Game to Dodger Stadium in 2022.
“I want to thank Rob Manfred, who stepped up and was a parent and he agreed to immediately to give us the very next available game and as always, I want to thank Mayor Eric Garcetti and Councilman Gil Cedillo for their support in doing all the things that we need from the city to get the game,” he said.
As for fans who had tickets to the 2020 All-Star Game, the Dodgers are offering multiple scenarios. One is to be credited for money spent on tickets to this year’s Midsummer Classic and receive an incentive. Or, the Dodgers began offering refunds Monday.
“For people who had tickets for the All-Star, if they want to keep their tickets on account, we would encourage that and we are providing an incentive for those people to keep their money on account with us,” Kasten said.
“If you want a refund, on Monday you will be able to go to the website to get your refund. As it relates to tickets for all the other games on the schedule, I think we’re still waiting for the schedule to come out before we announce the next steps on that and that should be very early in the week next week as well.”
