Although the Los Angeles Dodgers extended their reign over the National League West to a fourth consecutive division title and 12th in the past 13 seasons, they fell short of breaking the all-time MLB wins record like many predicted heading into the year.
The Dodgers also managed to capture only the third-best record among NL division winners. That resulted in starting their title defense by playing in the best-of-three Wild Card Series.
Overall, the Dodgers posted the fifth-best record in baseball at 93-69. They needed a five-game winning streak to close out the season to get there.
Nevertheless, the Dodgers hold the longest active MLB postseason streak at 13 consecutive years, which is also tied with the New York Yankees (1995-2007) for second all-time. The Atlanta Braves hold the longest postseason streak in MLB history at 14 seasons in a row from 1991-2005.
With how the postseason field has taken shape, there are multiple scenarios with which the Dodgers would potentially have home-field advantage in both the NL Championship Series and World Series.
Dodgers home-field advantage scenarios
2025 NLCS
Cubs vs. Dodgers
If the Chicago Cubs manage to complete their NLDS comeback against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Dodgers would have home-field advantage.
They were separated by just one game in the standings, as the Cubs finished the year 92-70.
Game 1 of the NLCS under this scenario would be at Dodger Stadium on Monday, Oct. 13.
Dodgers vs. Brewers
The Brewers posted the best record in baseball at 97-65 and therefore have home-field advantage throughout the entirety of the postseason.
Thus, if Milwaukee eliminates Chicago, they would host the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS at American Family Field.
2025 World Series
Dodgers vs. Blue Jays
If the Dodgers reach the World Series for a second consecutive year and match up against the Blue Jays, they would not have home-field advantage.
Toronto narrowly edged L.A. by going 94-68, good for the fourth-best record in baseball. It was tied with the New York Yankees, who the Blue Jays eliminated after winning the American League East by way of a head-to-head tiebreaker.
Mariners vs. Dodgers
The Mariners are in the ALCS for the first time since 2001, which also was the last time they’d won the AL West prior to this season. Seattle has never won a World Series in franchise history and if they’re going to end that drought this year, it would need to come without home-field advantage.
The Dodgers closing out the regular season with a weekend sweep at T-Mobile Park could wind up looming large as it guaranteed them a better record and thus homefield in a potential World Series matchup.
Under such a scenario, Game 1 of the World Series would be at Dodger Stadium on Friday, Oct. 24.
