Given their rich history on both coasts, it’s no surprise that the Los Angeles Dodgers are widely regarded as one of the most popular franchises in not only Major League Baseball, but all of professional sports in general.
Before their move to Los Angeles in 1958, the Dodgers held their own in a difficult New York market, competing against the likes of the Yankees and Giants.
With help from Hall-of-Famers Roy Campanella, Jackie Robinson and Duke Snider, among others, the Dodgers often challenged the Yankees as New York’s top dog.
The two teams met up a staggering seven times in the World Series throughout the 1940s and 1950s, with the Yankees claiming victory in all but one. Since their move to the West Coast, the Dodgers have squared off against the Yankees in four additional Fall Classics, with Los Angeles capturing championships in two of them.
According to Bill Shaikin of the L.A. Times, the two teams are set to renew their rivalry in a rare Interleague matchup at Dodger Stadium next season:

The Yankees last visited Dodger Stadium for a brief two-game Interleague matchup in 2013, when the two teams split the series with one win apiece.
Both clubs have since linked up on only one other occasion, which came back in 2016 for a three-game series at Yankee Stadium. The Dodgers took two out of three from their former New York counterpart, with Luis Avilan and Jose De Leon earning victories in the opener and finale.
