MLB Network compiles a list of the top-10 players at every position every year, and in a list created by “The Shredder,” the Los Angeles Dodgers predictably were well-represented for the 2025 season.
The Shredder is a statistical model that puts an emphasis on WAR, wRC+ and various metrics to create their annual rankings. Using a three-year sample, a player’s previous season weighs heavily in their determinations.
Having names riddled throughout the position groups, the Dodgers had just one player at a No. 1 spot, with the New York Yankees being the only team with two players in top spots at respective positions.
Dodgers on The Shredder rankings for 2025
First base: Freddie Freeman, No. 1
In consecutive years, Freddie Freeman was ranked the top first baseman in baseball. In unanimous fashion for the second straight year, MLB Network’s panel also put him above the rest.
Catcher: Will Smith, No. 3
In his sixth season as the Dodgers’ full-time catcher, Smith batted .248/.327/.433 with 24 doubles, 20 home runs and 75 RBI.
He received a second All-Star Game selection, and was able to stick among the game’s best, even with a drop off in performance during the second half of the regular season.
Smith’s game-calling and ability to throw runners out is another strong part of his game that has improved at a noticeable rate.
Starting pitcher: Blake Snell, No. 5
Recently signed to a five-year, $182 million contract, the Dodgers adding Snell gives them another frontend starting pitcher with ace talent. The two-time Cy Young Award winner spent the 2024 season with the San Francisco Giants.
Snell went 5-3 with a 3.12 ERA, 2.43 FIP and 1.05 WHIP in 20 starts. After the All-Star break, he posted an MLB-best 1.45 ERA.
Shortstop: Mookie Betts, No. 5
Appearing on The Shredder list as a second baseman last year, Betts returns to the infield after spending a portion of 2024 in right field. The veteran is slated to be the Dodgers’ shortstop in 2025.
Relief pitcher: Tanner Scott, No. 7
Joining the Dodgers on a four-year, $72 million contract, Scott is part of a Dodgers bullpen built to quiet any lineup.
The 30-year-old posted a 1.75 ERA, 2.92 FIP, 1.13 WHIP and 28.6% strikeout rate in 2024 between the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres. Scott’s production and willingness to pitch in any spot made him one of the most feared relievers in baseball.
Relief pitcher: Kirby Yates, No. 8
A late addition to the Dodgers’ roster, Yates inked a one-year, $13 million contract to make a run at a World Series title.
In 2024, Yates was the second-best reliever in the American League. The 37-year-old made 61 appearances for the Texas Rangers, posting a 1.17 ERA, 2.50 FIP, 0.83 WHIP and 35.9% strikeout rate.
Third base: Max Muncy, No. 8
Muncy dealt with a midseason injury that forced him to miss a considerable amount of time last year. But as a whole, he batted .232/.358/.494 with 17 doubles, 15 home runs and 48 RBI.
Muncy was the oldest player named in the third base group, but his offensive numbers graded out among the best with his slugging percentage.
Right field: Teoscar Hernández, No. 10
The 32-year-old joined the Dodgers on a one-year deal prior to the 2024 season, and earned every bit of the three-year contract he received from the team after a stellar year.
Hernández batted .272/.339/.501 with 32 doubles, two triples, 33 home runs, 99 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He led National League outfielders in home runs, slugging percentage and RBI.
