Dodgers News: Gavin Stone Excited To Have ‘New Shoulder’ After Surgery

While the Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation was being pieced together amid a rash of injuries, Gavin Stone served as the lone constant until the final month of the regular season.

Stone made every turn in the rotation until being placed on the 15-day injured list in early September because of right shoulder inflammation.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Stone would be shut down at that point for 10 days before resuming throwing. The right-hander maintained hope he would return to help the Dodgers in the postseason, but that remote possibility was dashed when Stone underwent right shoulder surgery on Oct. 9.

The Dodgers did not provide details of Stone’s surgery, other than to note he is expected to miss the entire 2025 season.

Stone went 11-5 with a 3.53 ERA in 25 starts last season. He set career highs in innings pitched (140.1), starts, wins and strikeouts (118).

The 26-year-old is among the injured Dodgers pitchers on hand at Camelback Ranch as the team prepares for the regular season. Not yet cleared to play catch, Stone has taken to pouring over his mechanics and picking the brains of teammates.

“Just kind of watching video, studying my throws, that way when I get back into it, it won’t be alien to me,” Stone told DodgerBlue.com.

“Watching these guys in Spring Training, we’ve got a heck of a group to watch. With Blake (Snell) coming in and Tanner (Scott), Kirby (Yates), and all these guys that we got, it’s cool to learn new things from different people on how they got to where they’ve gotten to.”

Gavin Stone surgery details

Multiple Dodgers pitchers have undergone shoulder surgeries over the past two years, and Stone revealed his operation was a blend of what Clayton Kershaw and Brusdar Graterol had corrected.

“It’s literally a mixture of both. They did quite a bit, but it feels great,” Stone said. “Feels healthy right now. I’ll start throwing in about a month. Haven’t had any setbacks yet, so hopefully it continues to be good.

“The capsule was a big thing. I don’t necessarily know what happened, but the capsule was being scraped by the bone, or something like that. And they did a partial labrum and partial rotator as well. Basically a new shoulder. Just trying to get healthy right now and get stronger is the main aspect.”
