The Los Angeles Dodgers optioned Matt Beaty and Rocky Gale on Sunday evening and reassigned D.J. Peters, Cameron Perkins and Jake Peter to Minor League camp. The Dodgers now have 45 players in camp, including 17 infielders/outfielders, 23 pitchers and five catchers.
Beaty, who plays both first and third base, had a solid showing this spring. He hit .292/.308/.458 with a home run and three RBI in 13 Cactus League games.
Gale was the team’s third catcher in camp, so this bodes well for the health Russell Martin. Gale appeared in seven Cactus League games and hit .222/.273/.444 with a triple and three RBI.
Peters has seemingly been the talk of camp as Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was among those to heap his praise. The outfielder only hit .182/.174/.545 with two home runs in 13 games.
Perkins was a Minor League signing that the Dodgers made earlier this offseason. He slashed .280/.308/.320 with a double and an RBI in 13 games.
Peter had a breakout spring for the Dodgers in 2018, but did not have the same success this time around. In 14 games, the second baseman hit just .118/.318/.176 with two doubles and a triple.
The Dodgers also made some other roster moves earlier in the day, optioning Yadier Alvarez, Josh Sborz and Donnie Hart and reassigning Omar Estevez and Gavin Lux to Minor League camp.
