Dodgers Spring Training Roster: Jake Lamb Re-Assigned To Minor League Camp

The Los Angeles Dodgers re-assigned Jake Lamb to Minor League cam on Sunday, which effectively ended his bid to make the Opening Day roster behind a strong showing throughout Spring Training.

Lamb was not in the lineup for the first game of the exhibition Freeway Series, but he is with the team in Anaheim. The 31-year-old signed a Minor League contract with a non-roster invite to Spring Training in the middle of March.

An All-Star with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2017, Lamb struggled to remain healthy the past four seasons. He was limited to 220 games from 2018-21, and hit a combined .203/.308/.355 with 25 doubles and 22 home runs over that span.

Lamb is coming off a particularly futile 2021 season spent with the Chicago White Sox and Toronto Blue Jays, as he batted just .194/.306/.368 with four doubles and seven home runs in 55 games.

However, entering play Sunday night, he’s hit .333/.379/.667 with three doubles, two home runs and two RBI over 12 Cactus League games.

While that was an encouraging showing, the odds of Lamb making the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster were impacted by the fact he would also needed to be added to their 40-man roster that remains full.

With Lamb presumably beginning the season with Triple-A Oklahoma City and the Dodgers having traded AJ Pollock to the White Sox, it’s seemingly created an avenue for Edwin Rios to be included on the Opening Day roster.

The Dodgers now have 40 players remaining in big league camp, with eight of those none-roster invitees.

Lamb confident in Dodgers

The Dodgers organization has established a strong reputation as having succeeded in aiding players get back on track to revive their careers. The bulk of that attention has gone to reclamation projects on the pitching side, but Max Muncy and Chris Taylor are examples for position players.

Lamb, who has made individual progress with his swing and mentality, believes he too can benefit from being with the Dodgers.
