Dodgers Not Among Teams Selected For New MLB City Connect Uniforms By Nike

MLB and Nike announced the return of City Connect uniforms, with seven teams selected to participate during the 2022 regular season. The Los Angeles Dodgers were part of the inaugural seven clubs with a Nike City Connect uniform last year, and it’s possible those respective looks will be worn again this season.

The Nike MLB City Connect program was created to celebrate the bond between each team and its city. The uniform series explores the personality, values and customs that make each community and their residents unique.

Year two of the City Connect program is going to feature the Colorado Rockies, Houston Astros, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, Milwaukee Brewers, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

“There’s nothing quite like the bond between baseball fans, their home teams, and their hometowns — and the Nike MLB City Connect series is an ongoing celebration of that relationship,” Nike vice president of North America league partnerships Sonja Henning said in a statement.

“We are thrilled to honor the history of each club while pushing the bounds of what a baseball jersey can be. We hope this series will continue to energize longtime fans — and bring a generation of new ones to the game.”

The Nationals were first to unveil their City Connect uniform, which pays tribute to the capital and its diverse background and takes inspiration from the annual springtime blooms of cherry blossom trees that are throughout the Potomac basin.

The Nationals’ City Connect jersey features an anthracite base color, cherry blossom print and pop of pink on the trims. The ‘WSH’ graphic on the front of the jersey reflects the power and strength of the neoclassical architecture found across the District.

On the left sleeve, the District of Columbia patch is an homage not only to America’s first president, but to all former, current and future Washingtonians.

“The excitement that our fans and players showed last year at each City Connect debut is exactly what these uniforms are all about,” MLB chief revenue officer Noah Garden said.

“When we initially partnered with Nike, the incredible energy that we see at each uniform launch is exactly what we envisioned. Nike continues to raise the bar working with our Clubs on developing these unique designs, bringing each community’s story to life. We can’t wait to see how these next seven uniforms connect with our fans and generate excitement on the field this season.”

New Era and Stance worked in collaboration with teams, MLB and Nike to develop on-field City Connect caps and socks that complete each uniform.

Dodgers City Connect

The Dodgers and Nike developed the franchise’s first all blue look last season and their City Connect jersey brought forth another new element with “Los Dodgers” in cursive across the chest. The Dodgers City Connect uniform was worn for five games last season.

It’s expected all 30 MLB teams will have a City Connect uniform by the end of the 2023 season.
