2025 Dodgers NLCS: Freddie Freeman Ties MLB Record For Most Go-Ahead Home Runs In Postseason

The Los Angeles Dodgers took Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on the road over the Milwaukee Brewers with a true pitchers’ duel, ending with a 2-1 final score.

The game was locked in a 0-0 tie until the sixth inning, when Freddie Freeman blasted a solo home run to put the first run on the board. That was the only run scored until the ninth inning, when each team scored once.

Freeman’s homer was huge at the moment, and it also moved him into a tie atop an impressive MLB postseason record. It was his 10th career go-ahead home run in the playoffs, matching Jose Altuve of the Houston Astros for the most all-time, according to Sarah Langs of MLB.com:

Freddie Freeman now has 10 go-ahead home runs in his postseason career

That’s tied with Jose Altuve for most in postseason history

— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) October 14, 2025

Of course, one could argue Altuve’s comes with an asterisk after the Astros were found guilty of cheating during the 2017–2019 postseasons with a sign-stealing scandal, making Freeman’s clean accomplishment all the more impressive.

Freeman has spent the entirety of his career between two franchises — the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers — and he has had numerous memorable postseason moments for both. However, none can top, and likely never will, his walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees.

That was the first walk-off grand slam in World Series history, and it was also one of Freeman’s 10 go-ahead home runs in postseason play.

With the Astros missing the playoffs this year, Freeman now has a chance to take sole possession of first place on the list. The Dodgers need seven more wins to repeat as World Series champions, and they have a max of 13 games remaining, or as few as seven.

Freeman has been in a bit of a slump this postseason, but appears to have broken out of it after his home run and a double against the Brewers. Like many Dodgers’ hitters, he struggled against an elite Philadelphia Phillies’ pitching staff.

Freddie Freeman career postseason stats

Over his postseason career, Freeman has slugged 15 homers while hitting .274/.370/.514 with 37 RBI and 35 runs scored. Last season, Freeman hit four homers in the playoffs, and his career-best is five, which came during the Braves’ World Series championship run in 2021.
