Andrew Heaney, who had multiple stints with the Los Angeles Dodgers, including one during the 2025 season, announced his retirement from MLB on Sunday.
Heaney made the announcement in a post on his Instagram with a photo from each team he played for: the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Angels, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates and Dodgers.
Heaney wrote: “Many people don’t get the opportunity to leave home and travel to beautiful places, meet amazing people from so many different backgrounds, all while doing something that they love. I have. I’m extremely proud of what I achieved with that opportunity. Over 10 years of major league service time, 3 Roberto Clemente Award nominations, winning Game 4 of the World Series, and becoming a World Series Champion in 2023, playing Major League Baseball has been a unique honor and privilege.
“I played with many of the greatest players of this generation and potentially some of the best players to ever wear a uniform. I’m humbled that I was even able to share the field with them. I was never an All-Star and definitely not a Hall of Famer, so I can only hope that I was great to each fan, player, coach, and staff member I go to be around. I’m so thankful for all of the people involved in making my career more successful than I ever dreamed. I will miss the game greatly, but all of my experiences and the lasting relationships have made me a better person. The routine of showing up to the yard every day and working to improve each time out has been a driving force for me the last 14 seasons.
“There have been challenges and sacrifices as well. Particularly being away from home and loved ones for long periods of time. But I am now ready to return my focus and energy to being a husband, father, family man, and active member of my community. I’m retiring from baseball, but I hope to give back more than I received. Thank you to all of you for the love and support you have given me. Y’all know who you are.”
Heaney was drafted by the Marlins in 2012 and became one of their top prospects before making his debut in 2014. After the season, he was traded to the Dodgers, along with Austin Barnes, Kiké Hernández and Chris Hatcher for Dee Gordon, Miguel Rojas and Dan Haren.
However, Heaney was then flipped to the Angels just hours later in a trade for Howie Kendrick. After being traded in such a short time, Heaney tweeted “Well, @Dodgers we had a good run! Great to be a part of such a storied franchise. #thanksforthememories”
The left-hander spent seven seasons with the Angels before being traded to the Yankees and spending half a season there. He then re-joined the Dodgers again for the 2022 season and posted his best season at the MLB level with a 3.10 ERA in 14 starts.
Heaney then signed with the Rangers for the 2023 season and became a World Series champion. He also stayed in Texas for the 2024 season before joining the Pirates in 2025.
After being released from the Pirates in 2025, Heaney signed a Minor League deal with the Dodgers and made one start of two innings, his final appearance in the Majors, while also earning himself another World Series ring.
Over his 12-year career, Heaney pitched in 230 games with a 4.57 ERA and 1,156 strikeouts in 1,136.2 innings.

Earlier this offseason, former Dodgers pitcher Joe Kelly also announced his playing career is over.
Kelly spent parts of five seasons with the Dodgers across two stints, going 9-5 with a 3.72 ERA, 3.55 FIP, 1.25 WHIP and 10.7 strikeouts per nine in 147.2 innings pitched (161 games).
He won three World Series during his career, the first in 2018 with the Boston Red Sox, and two more with the Dodgers in 2020 and 2024.
