Dodgers News: Walker Buehler Mindful Of Learning Curve That Comes With Pitching Against Rockies At Coors Field

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field for the second straight day on Saturday, using an eight-run inning to pull ahead for a 12-4 victory.

Rookie Walker Buehler got the start for the Dodgers and was able to get through five innings despite not having his best stuff. He gave up eight hits and four runs while striking out and walking two.

Although all four of those runs came in the second inning when he allowed five hits and a walk. This was not the first time that Buehler struggled while pitching at Coors Field as he gave up two runs in three innings across two relief appearances when he got called up last September.

He certainly isn’t the first or last pitcher, particularly one not yet with much experience, to struggle some when facing the Rockies at the hitter’s maven.

Buehler knows that playing in the National League West for many years to come that he will have to pitch at Coors Field against the Rockies multiple times each season, which will require him to learn and make adjustments, via Ken Gurnick of MLB.com:

“Playing for this team, we’re going to play here a lot and it’s something I’m going to have to learn. It’s big. And balls fall in. And those guys are good hitters. You can’t go out and dominate every time.”

After that rough second inning, Buehler was able to battle and get through five, giving the Dodgers a chance to win. The 23-year-old has done impressive things like that all season, going 3-1 with a 2.74 ERA and 1.02 WHIP in his first eight career starts while striking out 50 compared to 11 walks in 46 innings.

The Dodgers are expected to give Buehler an extra day of rest before his next start, something they will do often this season in an effort to limit his innings.
