The Los Angeles Dodgers announced retired broadcaster Vin Scully is back home four days after being hospitalized in the wake of falling.

“My sincerest thanks to the LA County Firemen and women who come to the rescue and always seem to be there when we need and to the excellent administration, doctors and nurses of Los Robles Hospital,” said Scully in a quote shared by the Dodgers.

“I am so eternally grateful for their help and selfless service. I’m home resting comfortably with my wife and we are both eagerly awaiting the Time for Dodger Baseball!”

While fans worried for the 92-year-old, he has maintained a positive and lighthearted attitude since his accident. “I won’t be doing anymore headfirst sliding, I never liked it,” he said as part of the Dodgers announcing Scully had fallen at his home.

Scully is now a fourth year into retirement after an illustrious career. He called Dodgers games for 67 seasons, joining the team on their move from Brooklyn to Los Angeles, witnessing 13 National League pennants with the organization and six World Series titles.

Among several accolades were Scully receiving the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. The Dodgers inducted Scully into the Dodger Stadium Ring of Honor in May 2017.

Although fans have wished for Scully to make a temporary return to the broadcast booth over the past few years, particularly during the postseason, he has continued to respectfully decline invitations. Scully instead has been at peace in retirement.

Though, the need to quarantine has presented new challenges for Scully and his family. Ever the optimist, he nonetheless has continued to encourage fans to adhere to safer at home orders. The longtime voice of the Dodgers additionally has waxed poetic about baseball being capable of helping the country heal once the sport is able to return.
