Longtime and late Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully left a sizable gift to his alma mater in the form of a $1 million donation to Fordham Prep School. It was gifted on behalf of the Vin Scully Estate.
Before becoming the iconic radio and TV voice of the Dodgers, both in Brooklyn and Los Angeles, for 67 years, Scully was a Fordham Prep graduate as part of the class of 1944. The Manhattan native not only played baseball for the school’s team, he also wrote for their newspaper, “The Rampant.”
In 1994, Scully was included in the school’s inaugural Hall of Honor class.
Scully, who passed away at the age of 94 this past August, was not only the voice of the Dodgers, but to many the voice of baseball.
Upon retiring after the 2016 season, his tenure with the Dodgers is the longest a broadcaster has ever achieved with a single team.
In addition to the Scully estate’s gift to Fordham Prep, they additionally gave the same amount to Fordham University, where Scully also went, and began his amateur broadcasting career.

For his remarkable work in the broadcast booth, bringing the joy of baseball into people’s lives for over half a century, Scully has been awarded countless achievements throughout his career.
