Dodgers News: Vin Scully Avenue To Be Dedicated In Time For Opening Day

Elysian Park Avenue, one of the entrances leading into Dodger Stadium will officially become Vin Scully Avenue with a dedication ceremony scheduled for Monday, April 11, at 11:15 a.m. at the corner of Stadium Way and what’s now becoming Vin Scully Ave.

The L.A. City Council unanimously passed a motion in January to rename the street after the Los Angeles Dodgers Hall of Fame announcer. There was some concern the change would not take place until May as residents provided mixed responses.

However, Dodgers senior vice president of planning and development recently hinted at the honor being in place in time for the Dodgers’ 2016 home opener on April 12. Coinciding with the street renaming, the Dodgers funded a beautification project with the cooperation of City Hall and Elysian Park Ave. residents.

Along with Scully, Dodgers president and CEO Stan Kasten, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and First District Councilman Gil Cedillo are scheduled to be in attendance. Cedillo filed the motion to rename the street in Scully’s honor.

Scully is entering his 67th and final season as broadcaster. The Dodgers are distributing a ‘Vin Scully Avenue t-shirt’ to the first 40,000 fans in attendance on Tuesday, May 10 when they host the New York Mets. The shirt is likely to be the first of multiple Scully honors in 2016.

“There are a lot of things in the works,” Dodgers vice president of ticket sales David Siegel said during a luncheon on March 22. “But, I would definitely say you can look forward to a lot of Vin Scully tributes this season.”

Monday’s ceremony will be open to the public. Dodger Stadium parking gates will open at 10:00 a.m., and those interested in attending are asked to park in lot 13/14 on Stadium Way.
