The Los Angeles Dodgers clinched a series victory over the Atlanta Braves on Saturday behind an 11-run outburst and another stellar performance by Tyler Glasnow.
The team received five home runs combined from Max Muncy, who hit three of them, Shohei Ohtani and Andy Pages, which was more than enough run support for Glasnow. The right-hander allowed two runs on five hits and collected 10 strikeouts in seven innings of work, improving to 6-1 on the season.
After the 11-2 win, Glasnow said he is grateful for the offensive support his teammates give him in each start, via Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group:
“It’s awesome,” Glasnow said of the offensive support. “It’s definitely special to be a pitcher and have offense. I think every game I’ve pitched it feels like (the Dodgers have scored) 10 runs or something. It’s definitely a good feeling.”
The Dodgers are 7-1 in games started by Glasnow this season, and they have scored at least four runs in each matchup.
The 30-year-old has thrown at least seven innings in three of his last five starts, allowing two runs or fewer and striking out at least nine batters in four of those.
Glasnow has been pleased with his results and said he tries to improve each time he takes the mound:
“It’s great,” Glasnow said of his stat pack. “(I’m just) trying to piece them all together and have good start after good start. It’s the only thing I’m focused on. I think a lot of the other stuff that comes with it is awesome, but I think for the most part, I’m just trying to pitch well every time I get the ball and I think all that stuff will follow.”
Through eight starts this season, Glasnow leads the Majors in wins, innings pitched (50) and strikeouts (63). He has posted a 2.70 ERA, 2.45 FIP and 0.92 WHIP.
Tyler Glasnow keeps track of strikeouts
After tying a career high with 14 strikeouts in a start against the Minnesota Twins earlier this season, Glasnow admitted that he keeps track of his total during games.
