Trevor Bauer finished the month of April with 51 strikeouts over six starts during the month of April, which amounted to a $51,000 donation being made to Think Together. Bauer launched a season-long initiative — “Ks for a Cause” — to donate $1,000 per strikeout to support nonprofit organizations focused on STEM and/or youth programming in the greater Los Angeles area.
Bauer is fully funding the initiative through grants from the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF). He also partnered with LADF to evaluate potential partner organizations and to work with receiving organizations.
In addition to monetary support, Bauer is highlighting all “Ks for a Cause” organizations through a dedicated content series on his YouTube channel and with limited-edition “Ks for a Cause” merchandise on his website. All proceeds benefit that month’s designated organization.
“It’s something that I’m passionate about. I’ve done different charity things throughout my career,” Bauer said of the initiative.
“Sometimes I don’t talk about them because I don’t really need to brag about the things that I do. But I wanted to make this one public, especially in partnership with the Dodgers and their foundation. Just something that I can give back to the community.
“Obviously I grew up in Southern California, and I’m passionate about that and passionate about education. I’m trying to give our youth opportunities that they may not have otherwise. There’s a lot of great foundations out there that do that and Think Together is one of them. I look forward to supporting more organizations as the year goes along.”
Bauer’s best strikeout performances came in his first two starts of the season, when he reached 10 in both outings. He twice had nine and seven strikeouts, and a final outing of six.
Bauer’s beneficiary for May
For the month of May, Bauer is going to support the just keep livin Foundation, which is dedicated to empowering high school students by providing them with the tools to lead active lives and make healthy choices for a better future.
The organization was founded by Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves in 2008, and implements after-school fitness and wellness programs in 39 inner city high schools throughout the country.
Just keep livin Foundation’s programs encourage students to make positive life choices that improve their physical and mental health through exercise, teamwork, gratitude, nutrition, and community service. Participating students also have a safe place to enhance their lives with fitness coaches and health experts.
